Tood McCrea | Partner and Principal Designer of FineRoot

Todd McCrea / Partner, Principal Designer

Todd has been designing and building gardens and commercial interiors for the past 25 years. He’s constantly searching for what makes spaces feel ‘good’, and how they relate to the people who use them. For the past 16 years he’s built exclusively in the Bay Area, and the last 9+ years were spent as the Lead Designer at Paxton Gate Design/Build.

As Lead Designer at Paxton Gate, Todd was fortunate to cross over into commercial design in 2009, starting with Flour + Water. After that he took the Lead on designing Central Kitchen, Salumeria, Le Marais Bakery, Third Rail Bar, Marla Bakery’s garden, and Handline Restaurant up in Sebastopol. He’s always believed that design is universal, and whether it’s a restaurant or a great pair of jeans, it’s all about finding the right balance. Design needs to be approachable, and materials need to resonate with people’s lives, or help with the branding of a concept.

Finding balance is part of what drove Todd to become a partner at FineRoot. When he’s not working with his good friends, he’s spending time with his three boys or volunteering at their schools. FineRoot believes in being a part of your community, and in whatever small ways possible, helping make this a better place for all of us, and for our kid’s future.

Todd has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture, and Masters in Landscape Architecture from U-PENN, and has been featured in Houzz and CH&D
